What types of defamation-defense cases do you handle?

We are particularly keen on handling what are called Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation or "SLAPP" suits.

These are lawsuits where a plaintiff is clearly retaliating against a defendant who exercised that defendant's First Amendment right to free speech on matters of public concern.

We handle such cases in Ohio under the Uniform Public Expression Protection Act (UPEPA), adopted in 2025, and in California under that state's anti-SLAPP statute.

Those statutes provide an expedited process for a court dismissing retaliatory cases outright.

We generally charge hourly fees for such services. But a defendant successful in dismissing a case at the early stages can generally obtain a reasonable attorney-fee award from the court, and recoup most if not all of the expenses.

We handled the first such successful UPEPA case in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and have handled, or provided attorney-fee-expert services, on others.
